A ram and a gunboat,partially completed, were burned. On the 15th, news cameto the same place that Governor Vance was captured byour cavalry between Hillsboro and Raleigh, on the 13thinstant. After the terms of the surrender were arranged, GeneralGrant immediately left the army for Washington, withoutstopping to visit the fallen Capital, or pausing longer bythe way than was requisite for refreshment. On the 13thof April, 1865, he reached Washington, established hishead-quarters, and went to the War Department, wherehe met the President and Secretary Stanton.
