pt one. Iam only one more going out to the war, as many, who willbe more missed than I shall be, have gone before. Whyshould this call for special notice? Although I love myhome, and love this old school, I can not say that I am sorryI am going away. I can not even say that I leave you allbecause I deem it my duty to go. I rejoice rather, that,at length, I am to have the part I have longed for, butwhich has been denied me until now, in defending my Gov-ernment and in serving my country. I go because I wantto go; and I give God thanks for the privilege of going.And it was thus that Henry Camp went to war. Hastening to Annapolis, he joined his regiment, and en-tered on the performance of a soldiers duty, and the studyof his new profession. He was among strangers, and in astrange work. Writing home on hisfiist sabbath evening in camp, he said, — I have just been to a prayer-meeting, and it reallyseems good, after such a busy, working week. I shallprize these services, and, I think, enjoy them a great dealbetter than I did at home. They are held nearly everyevening; but our officers school interferes with my attend-ing them, except on Sunday. To-night, a great fire wasbuilt at the foot of one of the company streets, and wegathered around it, standing, of course. There are severalGreenwich men here, who have come to see how their boysare getting along, — men who have already done a greatdeal, and are ready to do more; and one of them spokevery earnestly. Chaplain Hall said a few words: therest consisted about equally of prayers and singing.
