To do Buldeo justice, if he had been ten yearsyounger he would have taken his chance withAkela had he met the wolf in the woods, but awolf who obeyed the orders of this boy who hadprivate wars with man-eating tigers was not acommon animal. It was sorcery, magic of theworst kind, thought Buldeo, and he wonderedwhether the amulet round his neck would protecthim. He lay as still as still, expecting everyminute to see Mowgli turn into a tiger, too. Maharaj ! Great King, he said at last, in ahusky whisper.
