The whole imagery isthe same as on the Byzantine ivory in the Libraryat Munich. In another part the body is borneaway for burial. On the second register the Virginrises in glory carrying a palm and book andaccompanied by the most charming group of music-making angels ; above, she sits enthroned besideChrist and attended by the two candle-bearingangels. The only known signed mediaeval ivory is a boxin the British Museum which bears the name offeha7i Nicolle. In the Inventory of Charles V.the name of one ivory carver has survived, but hewas also goldsmith to the king.
