The Industries of San Francisco. 125 fleet and fishing boats engaged in capturing whales, sea elephants, and other oil-producing ani-mals and fish in the Pacific Ocean. With this end in view, and desiring to produce only thepurest article, the works were erected at the Totrero, on the bay shore, and supplied with allthe scientific appliances and adaptable machinery that experience could suggest. The estab-lishment began operations in 1883, in time to refine the catch of that season, and the result ofthe years operations was satisfactory in an emment degree, the products being of the best char-acter, and worthy of being placed with the oils made at the well-known works in the East andEurope. At these works are made sperm, whale, sea elephant, and fish oils; spermacetti andsperm candles; whale and fish pressings; and sperm, whale, and fish oil scraps. All these pro-ductions are superior articles, and are already in demand for use here and shipment to all partsof the world. The business,
