Author: Emilia Nadal, 1977 (Large package; Painting and collage)

EMILIA NADAL ( Born Lisbon, Portugal, 1938) Her work contains several components which develop simultaneously: social and political critique, lyrical introspection, and works that seek to infuse modernity into religious art. Her critical action, which is historically more significant (anchored in works from the 1970's but which the current global crisis has resurfaced), is in strong dialogue with the themes and languages of pop art, which EMILIA NADAL mixes with the spatial understandings and formal associations of surrealist heritage. The work presented here belong to this component, criticizing a society where, where in terms of economics and politics, the accelerated consumption of ideas and products run rampant , the values of subjectivity are reduced and the subordination of women (albeit with subtle reformulations) remains as is exemplified by cans of cans of of slogans and packages of ideal wives that serve all ends and purposes and come in powdered form like detergents.
