The words Git out! with the tone in whichthey were uttered, would have been comprehensibleto a much meaner intelligence than Sonnys. Asif he had been whipped, he curled down his abbrevi-ated tail, and ran and hid himself in his kennel. Sonny didnt mean to be ugly to the Kid,father, protested Ann. Joe felt a vague suspicion that Ann might beright; but it was a very vague suspicion, justenough to make him feel uneasy and put him onthe defensive.
