At the same time the Grecian horse might have been of onetype—the one linked to the chariot might have been of the same breed asthe one on which the trooper rode in battle,—and if such was the case itmustbe accounted for on the supposition that the Grecian stock was ofArabian descent, for the statuary of horses discovered in the ruins of Ninevehgives portraitures of these animals very similar to the Grecian horses repre-sented in the Elgin marbles, and consequently both might have originatedfrom a common stock and birthplace. Button considered that Arabia was thecentre from which the horse sprang, and this has been the generally acceptedopinion.
