r muscles of a more fleshycharacter, it will be remembered that atrophyand not ossification results from injury andsubsecjuent disuse. By some it is affirmed that it is almostinvariably the right shoulder which is affected,and that the trouble is frequently incurred atplough. If that be so an animal once affectedin this manner should not again be employedfor ploughing. Treatment.—The chief aim is to give re-pose to the injured muscle, and for this purpose the patient should beconfined to the stable. At first hot fomentations will be needed toreduce existing inflammation. As soon as the acute lameness has passedaway blistering may be resorted to, and repeated once or twice accordingto the circumstances of the case. After this a turn out on a level pas-ture will prove beneficial. A blister-charge over the injured region is afavourite method of treatment in some districts where experience of theaccident has given opportunities of observation on the different meanswhich may be employed.
