Curious stories are told about immaculate typog-raphy and amateur printers. Dr. Cotton Mather, in his Magnalia,has some very good hints for those who would have it understoodthat errors in a book are unpardonable sins. It may incur the charge of vanity for an author to append to hisname his honors or titles ; but if a long period of labor in historicalfields can be any excuse, that may be offered in this instance ; for itis above thirty years since the writer commenced his historical andantiquarian labors, and he has now reached the fifty-seventh of his age.This may be considered an unnecessary apology for adopting an ancientcustom, especially as there are some instances, at the present time,of ostentatious displays of this kind to names in works to which evena claim to editorship may be questionable. ■
