Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The high walled Bron Aber The house is surrounded by high prison-like walls. The walls were built around the house in 1939 by the then owner, Capt. Vivian Hewitt (1888-1965), a serious eccentric, to stop cats getting into the gardens to chase birds. Hewitt, a millionaire member of a brewing family, was a pioneer aviationist - and was the first. in 1912, to fly across the Irish Sea to Dublin. He came to Cemlyn, buying 270 acres of land around the bay, to avoid people and to indulge in his passion for birds (of the feathered kind). He was great collector of all things to do with birds e.g. though the Auk had been extinct for close on 100 years, Hewitt owned as many as four stuffed auks and 9 auk eggs.
