Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe high level footpath, Grand Union Canal, Tring Station - geograph.org.uk - 1353060.jpg |
English: The high level footpath, Grand Union Canal, Tring Station. When the Grand Junction Canal (now the Grand Union Canal) was built at the end of the 18th century the spoil from the Tring Cutting was heaped on either side. This path, on the east side of the canal (there is another on the west side) starts at the road bridge over the canal at Tring Station 1340333 climbs through the wooded bank to run along the top of the old spoil heap. The path continues alongside a lawn with young trees beside some farm buildings 1353067 and then enters a large field 1353098 which was planted with wheat when photographed.
The railings of the road bridge over the canal can just be seen through the trees and lower down there is a glimpse of the wooden railings on the path that leads up for the canal to the road bridge 1340342. |
