[edit]DescriptionThe heavily bombed ground floor of the Reichstag building - Edward T. Vebell - 1945.jpg |
English: In his 1978 book An Artist at War: The WWII Memories of Stars & Stripes Artist Ed Vebell, the photographer recalls "The heavily bombed ground floor of the Reichstag building. The well-known Russian journalist Svetlagorsk is interviewing a refugee. The far wall flanks Hitler's underground bunker, which was dark, and I unfortunately didn't have a flashlight when I visited. The steps going down were full of broken masonry. Unfortunately, it would have been impossible to see or record anything. Note all the "scratched in" Russian signatures on the stone walls and columns to record that 'they were there'"" |
