[edit]DescriptionThe headquarter of the American Red Cross in Bucharest LCCN2017671106.jpg |
English: Nothing Too Good for Americans. That is what the Roumanian government told the Red Cross in placing at that organization's disposal this fine building in Bucharest. It was used as a headquarters to direct the relief work that saved thousands of people in Roumania from disease and death. The Red Cross is given credit by many Roumanians with playing the principal part in putting the country back on its feet. It supplied practically all the hospitals, fed and clothed hundreds of thousands of mothers and children and checked the worst typhus epidemic the country ever faced. In the car in the foreground from left to right are Major J. Breckenridge Bayne, of Washington, who worked among the Typhus victims in Roumania for two years; Capt. Claude E. Marble of Oneida, N.Y. Artificial leg expert; and Capt. Francis Alvord of Buffalo, N.Y., director of Red Cross transportation in Roumania |
