, thumb thin and small, skin fineand very vascular, nails narrow and semi-transparent. This type of hand may belooked upon as essentially feminine. It de-notes a highly-sensitive frame, and a deli-cately-organised nervous system. The ner-vous ramifications distributed to the surfaceof the body being covered only by a thinlayer of cuticle or scarf-skin, are easily ex-cited by impressions from without, and asreadily transmit their excitement to the cen-tral organs, thus occasioning a prompt andvivid flow of ideas. (cl) The Artistic Hand of DArpentignyis a variety of this type. It is characterisedby a moderately-developed palm, long taper-ing fingers, very flexible, and a small thumb. Plate 2.
