as Pastorius neighbor and at one timethey exchanged verses by throwing them over the fence to eachother. They were both interested in flowers and horticultureand their verses related to these subjects. Pastorius left a remarkable book called The Beehive, avolume of family and miscellaneous matters containing athousand pages of history, agriculture, philosophy, poetry, laws,etc., written in seven languages. The book is still in pos-session of the family, but is at present deposited in the Libraryof the University of Pennsylvania. Whittier has immortalized Pastorius and the placid life ofthe early Germantown settlers in his Pennsylvania Pilgrim. Pastorius died February 27th, 1719. It is not knownwhere he was buried, but it is supposed in the Friends burialground on the Main Street above Coulter. Some of his descendants of the name Pastorius are still livingin Germantown.
