Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe glen of the Murroch Burn - geograph.org.uk - 1623207.jpg |
English: The glen of the Murroch Burn In this part of the steep-sided glen, the burn makes many sharp turns, enclosing long, narrow ridges. Some of these ridges, such as the one in the foreground, are passable, providing access to the burn itself; three such ridges on this side of the burn provide, even today, the easiest means of reaching some lime-kiln ruins (sites 8, 9, and 10 at https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1622071 ).
Since it would otherwise be fairly hard to reach this part of the burn, and to bring material to it, the presence of fairly accessible ridges was probably an important factor influencing the choice of location of the kilns; compare 1926212. The far more precarious ridges in the background are surrounded by lingering mist that is lit by a low sun. |
