re cut off by the frost without expanding. It was thentaken out of the ground and placed in the frame the whole of the winter. Thissummer it was again planted out in the open ground, in which situation it hasgrown vigorously, and flowered freely. It may be increased by cuttings of theyoung wood plunged in a gentle heat. Not being sufficiently hardy to stand the winter, it should, during that period, have frame protection. If planted out of doors, as before stated, it will be veryornamental, and continue flowering until prevented by the frost. The generic name is said to be derived from Xvkos, a wolf, in reference to itsdevouring the fertility of the soil in which it grows; but which must be regardedas a very doubtful explanation. The specific name Barkerim we have given to this plant in compliment to Mrs.Barker, who devotes much attention to, and takes great interest in, the splendidcollection at Springfield.
