TING MASCOT splashing in pools of water, while the mud at thebottom gripped our feet. We floundered along, not knowing which wayto turn, and the bog grew worse and worse.Once I went into the mire to my knees andthought I was lost, for it took the last bit ofstrength that was left me to get out. There came a cry for help. ^ ^ I m sinking! I m sinking! the voice cried.* The muds sucking me down! And then: *^We cant help him. Were sinking our-selves. I felt the mud pulling me down, too. An arm reached out frombehind and grabbed me, and with that help Ipulled myself free. The next step brought meto firmer ground. * ^ We 11 all be done for if we dont get out ofhere soon, said the lad who had helped me.*^I was almost gone myself a minute ago, andIm that twisted I dont know which way toturn. Close together we moved carefully along, andsoon we found easier going. Before long weheard some one calling out, ^^This way, boys, and we followed the voice. After a few min-utes we had reached grass-covered fields, and,as a light fla
