sly when the eruption is slow to appear, and whenit is necessary to restore the strength of the patient. Its principaluse in medicine is however to cover the disagreeable taste of otherremedies, or to give them warmth. For this purpose it may be sub-stituted for any aromatic substance. The dose of the berries is from five grains to forty. The following are the principal preparations of this medicine : Aqua Pimento. Allspice water. Take of the berries, bruised,half a pound, water a pint. Macerate the berries in the water fortwenty-four hours, and with a sufficient quantity of water to preventempyreuma. Distil a gallon. Spiritus Pimento. Spirit of Allspice. Take of the berries,bruised, two ounces, proof spirit a gallon, water sufficient to preventempyreuma. Macerate for twenty-four hours, then distil a gallonby a gentle heat. Oleum PiMENTyE. Oil of Allspice. Obtained by submittingthe berries, bruised, with water to distillation. The medicinal uses of these preparations are very limited.
