VAGINA—VEGETABLES there is much pain in the region of the top of the loins andstomach, and especially if the urine which passes is tingedwith blood, the presence of a stone may be suspected ;but under any circumstances the bowels should be wellopened by a dose of castor oil, and opium should beadministered every six hours in doses of from J grain to2 grains, according to the size of the dog. Linseedpoultices on the parts where the pain exists will alsobring relief. Inflammation of the kidneys, or nephritis, also createsa difficulty in passing water. It may be the result of cold,a stone, or some direct injury. The symptoms are : greatpain at the loins, an arched back, and a difficulty inwalking, whilst the urine is generally bloody. Hotfomentations will relieve the pain ; but this is both adangerous and a painful disease, so a veterinary surgeonshould be called in. (See Linseed, Nursing; Stone.)
