Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The empty shell of Swansea Leisure Centre Swansea Leisure Centre was a modern state of the art (if not rather ugly) leisure centre when it was built and opened in 1977. Designed to serve Swansea for the next 50 or so years, it was abruptly closed without notice in November 2003 when major structural defects were found in the building's construction. For a while it looked likely to be completely demolished but it was decided to refurbish the original building at an estimated cost of £25 million. Future plans are ambitious: when it reopens in 2008 it will house Europe's first indoor surf boarding ride 'SurfStream'. The leisure centre will also boast an indoor water park consisting of a network of pools, water rides, and slides, including the Masterblaster, the world's first uphill water slide. Plus a lazy river will allow children to body surf and there will be an interactive pool with play equipment, a toddler teaching facility in the Lagoon Pool and baby classes in the Kids Pool.
