on im-poverished blood, and has been extensively used on the continent, in thetreatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, asthma, pertussis, and various otherrespiratory and nervous troubles. It may be used with the alternateddynamic current, and results secured, which rival those obtained from theauto-conduction cage, when connected with a high frequency apparatusfrom a high tension inductorium. This solenoid has no magnets inconnection, hence the field is not as strong as the ones with magnets, buton account of the great weight of a magnet coil ot this size, it is not advis-able. This is to be connected to the alternated current, and will be foundespecially, beneficial in all forms of general debility, weakened states, andin convalescence from continued fevers, etc. EI.ECTRO-MAGNETS FOR EYE WORK While on the subject of magnets it may be well to call attention to theuse of them in eye work, for the removal of particles of magnetic iron orsteel from the eye. 184 THE ELECTRO-THERAPEUTIC GUIDE
Text Appearing After Image:
The cut at the left shows a reduced illustrationof the giant eye magnet, for use in hospitals and byophthalmic specialists, desiring a very powerful mag-net in their work. This exerts an enormous powerof attraction, and is capable of sustaining severaltimes its own weight. It is mounted on a heavy basewith an adjustable crane, and swings in a universalswivel, which adapts it to any height or angle andwhile heavy, is easily handled. They have severalinterchangeable tips, and are wound to suit the differ-ent currents. The accompanying two cuts show a small eye magnet, which may beused in connection with a small acid battery or a few dry cells, and whichwill develop sufficient power to enable the skillful operator to successfullyremove magnetic particles from the chambers and coats of the eye ball. The magnet is small and compact and inexpensive, and will fill a long feltwant of the general practician. The large cut will explain the techniqueof its use. For this purpose a constant current
