Theaverage load is the average of the load at the beginning of theseries of observations and the load at the end of the series.This average load was divided by the actual area of the arm andused as the unit stress for the series. The stresses are notfar from the mean at any time during a series of observations,rarely over 10 lb. per sq.in.
