Thus in cryptorchidy in the horse, the gubernaculum, as shown in Fig. 1, crosses the tail of the epididymis and is closely attached to it. The inexperi- enced surgeon attempts to castrate the cryptorchid, en- counters the epididymis in the peritoneal pouch and am- putates it from the testicle under the impression that he is castrating the animal. Later a second operation is neces- sary and within the abdomen there is found a "third testicle."
