TO SELF-SUPPORT 47 the man, however, supported by the encouragement thatthe social workers dealing with the family are able toinspire can often effect the right result. And finally is the tendency of the disabled soldier toconceive that he has done his duty by his country andthat he should now be supported for the rest of hisnatural days at national expense. This is largely aquestion of personal character. The weak and shiftlesscome easily to this servile point of view, the strong andself-dependent shun it vigorously. Again, the familyinfluence will often be the deciding factor, and this canbe largely moulded by the home service visitors. Theadviser in the hospital has here a job in character buildingand it will be found that this type of effort is essentialall through the rehabilitation process. Final decision on all these points of consideration willdepend in large degree on the caliber of the men who asadvisers are put in touch with the disabled soldiers.Personal strength and force
