AT DINNERS 395 read\ had much bubble and I simply went on with redoubled bub-bling while the squeaks were squeezed out. But whats the use ?— you must hear this kind of thing lecited. And now at thelast hour I am told that there is no such drink as Bubble andSqueak, then what becomes of all my fun ? Time presses. I shallnot swap horses now—so I shall let it stand. I too have had many welly pleasant dinnels. I rememberbeing seated at the old Century Club, between Booth and Bar-rett. I had seen Barrett, when a young man, and had always pre-dicted he would be a good actor. They were then both Summits.They both had rather long upper lips, shaved, which gave theface-scape a rugged or rocky character, so I fancied; but whilegleams of sunshine played over these heights from time to time,I must confess, the atmosphere was cool up there, and I felt asif I were in cold storage.
