Text Appearing Before Image:
lu-tion, elongation of the cervix, endo-metritis, metritis, and new-growthsof the uterus. 2. The direction of the uterine canalis often changed from the normalby new-growths in and about theuterus, by senile involution, byinflammatory contraction, and bydisplacements of the uterus fromwhatever cause. As stated underpreliminary precautions, it is alwayswise to precede the passage of thesound by a preliminary bimanualexamination. If the relation of thebody to the cervix is determined, the sound is curved at the properangle before it is introduced. By sodoing there is less danger of punc-turing the uterus. 3. Stenosis and atresia of the uterinecanal are definitely determined bythe sound. Apparent stenosis at the point of flexion is often madeto disappear by traction upon the cervix with vulsella forceps. 4. Irregularities of the mucosa, if not too small and soft, may bedetected by the sound. Such irregularities are submucous fibroids, Simpsons graduated sound. 86 GENERAL DIAGNOSIS Fig. 16
