Fouror five strips are puton (Fig. 691) so as togive firm support.Then a piece of cotton is placed over all, andthe binder reapplied.When it is desiredto look at the woundarea, because of irri-tation along the suturetracts or for otherreason, the adhesiveplaster is cut alongthe edges of the gauze(Fig. 691) and thegauze removed so thatthe scar and vicinityare exposed (692).After the requiredtreatment, gauze isagain applied andthen new plaster puton, the ends of thenew plaster stripsadhering to the oldplaster at each side.This permits inspec-

Ordinarily, the scar area need not be in-spected for several days or a week after the sutures are removed. Then it isexposed as above explained, cleansed, dusted with a drying powder, coveredwith gauze and again strapped with adhesive strips. In the meantime, a light strong abdominal supporter is fitted to the patient.This is to be worn for three months. It is well to leave the adhesive strips on untilthe patient reaches home, as they serve as an additional protection during theextra exertion of the trip. After the patient reaches home and the abdominalsupporter has become comfortably adjusted, the adhesive strips are removed.
