The most frequent form of infection here is gonorrhoea, although other varie-ties of pus infection may be en-grafted on wounds or abrasions.Gonorrhoeal Vulvitis. There isa free yellow discharge, with us-ually more or less involvment ofthe urethra and also of the ductsof the vulvo-vaginal glands (Fig.50). There is no cause apparentfor the persistence of a simpleinflammation. Microscopic ex-amination of the discharge showsgonococci. Simple Vulvitis. Occurs mostfrequently in children and is dueto uncleanliness of the parts or toan irritating vaginal discharge orto irritating urine or to scratch-ing or other irritation. This isnot usually as severe as gonor-rhoeal inflammation and sub-sides when the parts are cleansedfrequently and protected fromirritation.
