Kraurosis Vulvae (Fig. 217) is a peculiar neuro-atrophic condition of the externalgenitals, usually preceded by a long period of pruritis. The skin becomes atrophicand has a bleached and drawn and withered appearance. It is seen most frequentlyin elderly women, and is usually accompanied by intense pruritis, as attested by the history of the case and by the abra-sions from scratching. ULCER ON EXTERNAL GENI-TALS. Simple Ulcer. It presents none ofthe characteristics of special ulcers.There is some source of irritation suffi-cient to account for the ulcer and itheals quickly under simple cleansingtreatment. Chancroidal Ulcer (soft chancre).This is an angry-looking sore with sharp-cut or undermined edges. It is pain-ful. The margins are soft unless veryold, and in any case do not present theextensive and firm induration found inthe fully developed syphilitic chancre. K
