Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe destruction of St Matthew's Saltney Ferry - Downspout brackets - geograph.org.uk - 1356429.jpg |
English: The destruction of St Matthews Saltney Ferry - Downspout brackets On the evening of 11th December 2008 the redundant church of St Matthews, Saltney Ferry was destroyed by fire. This photo was of the southeast corner of the church showing the remains of the broken brackets that used to hold the downspout. It looks as though the downspouts were removed long before the fire.
Four days after the fire there were still no restrictions on access to the site. A fortnight later the shell had been demolished, the site made safe, and then it was secured. St Matthews was built in 1911 to provide for the needs of the expanding railway community at Mold Junction. Due to a dwindling congregation the church became redundant in June 2000 and, coincidentally, the church hall was burnt down about five years ago. |
