(39.05 cm x 26.99 cm) Publisher: Murataya Jirobei Credit Line: Gift of Alice Klauber Label Copy: "The five hundred rakan were Buddhist monks who became enlightened through their dedicated practice of the teachings of the Buddha. The veranda of this temple dedicated to them in Edo was famous as a place from which to view Mount Fuji. Note the dress and hairstyles of the merchant-class women on an outing to the temple that differ from the more ostentatious kimono and coiffeurs of courtesans, who were more frequently depicted in Ukiyo-e prints."
