Description
English: The cosmic lotus Mahakala and Ten Sikh Gurus. Sikh-Kashmir mixed style Miniature painting dated A.D. 1839. Done on paper, 46.5 x 44.5 cm. Presently kept at the National Museum in Delhi, India. This folio of Sri Guru Granth Sahib conceives the Universe as divided into twelve petals of a lotus representing twelve zodiac divisions. Ten of these petals illustrate the Ten Sikh Gurus and the other two their origin. The central circle of the lotus has Sodhi Bhan Singh, the patron who got this manuscript prepared. He worshipping Mahakala and Mahakali and gifted to Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
