It wasat this point that the necessity became obvious for. a regulated scheme of work, in connection with artistic ideas. The scheme was approvedafter undergoing some modifications. The new Grado, as it may becalled on account of its important building operations, grew up to theeastward of the old town, to be precise just behind the historic buildingknown as the Fortino, which formed the end of the Via Stefania. The bathing claimed many visitors, from all parts of the world.In 1913 the bathers brought together were 18,000 ; the profit fromall this did not accrue to the city where they were visitors, but wasexploited by Austrian capitalists, and went entirely to the other sideof the Timavo.
