Description
English: The church of St Peter in Needham - C18 memorial. Heraldry: Azure, on a fess or three leopard's faces gules (Freston) (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.379); impaling: Argent, on a bend sable six falchions saltirewise, two, two, and two (or/argent?) (Kedington). For William Freston of Mendham in Norfolk, who died October 2Gth, 1739, aged 55 ; and also for Margaret his wife, daughter and heiress of Henry Kedington, who died July 2nd, 1741, aged 51. Other information

Only the round tower remains of the original St Peter's church > 1771164 that stood here in Norman times, chancel and nave were built in the 15th century and the chancel was entirely rebuilt by William Freston in 1735 - his monument can be seen on the south wall. The brick south porch > 1771169 is medieval as are a number of carved bench ends > 1771174 in the nave, the backs of which were made from later woodwork. One may have come from a screen and has an inscription > 1771177 carved in the wood. The baptismal font > 1771185 dates from the 15th century also.
