,r)2 THE CHURCH OF Just beyond this tablet the plain round archedvaulting of the ambulatory ceases, and twoloftier pointed arches, standing east and west,probably built early in the fifteenth century,mark the passage leading into the Lady Chapel.These arches were uncovered when the fringefactory was removed on the rebuilding of theapse in 1886. The brick wall east of and between thesearches is temporary, and has been built toprotect the church from lire. A door inthis wall at the top of a small flight of woodensteps leads into the Lady Chapel. Here arearranged several interesting fragments ofNorman work, some showing the originalcolour, a piece of a rafter of the roof of theLady Chapel, also showing painting, and agreat part of the Perpendicular tracery of theeast windows of the church. In the north wall of the Lady Chapel part ofits windows remain, and on the south, outside,the original buttresses are standing.
