[edit]DescriptionThe church of SS Margaret and Remigius - viewed from the southeast - geograph.org.uk - 1313330.jpg |
English: The church of SS Margaret and Remigius - viewed from the southeast. The church of Seething > 1313339 - 1454714 is dedicated to the saints Margaret and Remigius. It has an 11th century (Norman) round tower > 1313326 with the main building dating from the 14th century. The church interior retains a number of medieval wall paintings > 1454746. The benches have carved poppy heads and old glass can be seen in several of the windows. Two roundels in the nave south window depict the symbols of St Mark > 1454776 and St Luke > 1454780 and an angel holding a shield > 1454784 is inset in the chancel north window. The east window is Victorian. The south door is original as is part of the medieval flooring. The rood screen dado > 1454720 dates from the 15th century and is decorated with stencilled flowers and gessowork. The octagonal font > 1454797 is one of 40-odd existing Seven Sacrament fonts, dating from 1480. In comparison with other fonts of this type, which were defaced during the Reformation, this one is in exceptionally good condition. The church is kept locked, a key is available. |
