ge,was consecrated by commission in 1680, and how the BlackTown Chapel (St. Marks) was similarly consecrated in 1804.1Both these consecrations were carried out with the consent andthe co-operation of the Government. In the year 1807 theDirectors were asked to sanction the building of Churches insome of the larger military stations.2 In anticipation ofsanction work was commenced, and the first of these to becompleted was that at Masulipatam. When it was approachingcompletion at the end of 1809 the Senior Chaplain, the Kev. E.Vaughan, obtained the permission of the Government for itsconsecration. He addressed the Archbishop of Canterbury onthe subject, and sent his letter through the usual officialchannel.
