ge. The Pipe-fish is another curious creature, witha long pipe-like snout. Owing to the way he standson his head and tumbles about, people have com-pared him to a clozmi. You know lobsters and crabs very well; but theHermit Crab is a peculiar individual. He has noshell on his body, and, therefore, he has to findsome protection for himself. He goes off house-hunting and when he finds an empty shell that suitshim exactly, he takes possession of it. He has twosmall hooks at the end of his body and with thesehe catches hold of one of the spirals of the shellwhich he intends to occupy; and as his body ismore like that of a worm than a crab, he is able tosquirm into the spiral shell and fit himself into itscoils. When he outgrows this shell, he has to huntfor a new house; and so he crawls out of his oldquarters and goes off house-hunting again.
