A BRAVE LAD TN the clays when Good Queen Anne sat on^ the Enghsh throne, there was a Httle orphanboy on the Isle of Wight who ran away to sea.Soon after the ship on which he was met a Frenchcruiser. A battle followed. I wish this battlewas over, said the little boy from the Isle ofWight. So do I, said one of the cannoneers, but it wont be, lad, until this French ship strikesher colors. The two ships were locked together.Swift as an arrow the boy darted through thesmoke, crept upon the French ship, climbed to hermasthead, tore down the flag and carried it backthrough the smoke and flame to the commander ofthe English ship. Here are the French colors, sir, he said, saluting. And now the battles overand weve won. The little lad became the famousAdmiral Hopson.
