There were present upon that occasion—fifty-six years ago—many sur-viving soldiers of the war of the American Revolution—men who fought atCamden, Eutau Springs, Kings Mountains—who wintered with Washingtonat Valley Forge—crossed with him the Delaware at midnight, and at breakof day won the signal victory at Trenton—men who fought at Brandywine,Saratoga and Yorktown. These veterans, when the revolutionary warended had come to this Northwest Territory to locate their military landwarrants, given to them in payment for their services. The third range oftownships on which the City of Hamilton now stands—six miles wide andextending from the Great to the Little Miami River—having been set apartfor that purpose by Congress.
