Observations.—Notwithstanding the very rudimental structure of the mouth in this insect, aswell as in the genera Colax, Wiedemann, and Trichopsidea, Westw., I am inclined to refer them tothe position proposed by M. Macquart (Dipt. Exot. ii. p. 34), namely, in connexion with theNemestrinse, in which the mouth is developed to its highest extent. Theii- relation to the (Estridaeappears to me more questionable. The Orchidaceous plant represented is the Bromheadia palustris, from Singapore and Sumatra. • Colonel Sykes observes of D. Sykesii, This msect affects chasms or ravines in the lofty woods which encircle the hill fort ofHurreechunderghur m the western ghauts of the Deccan, in various places. Where the sunbeams occasionally pierce the woods andfall upon isolated or salient rocks in the above locaUties, they are seen in myriads either poising themselves in the r.ays, or reposingin the spots on wliich the rays fall. 19
