Much confusion having been introduced into the nomenclature of those oriental species of Stag-beetles which have the luteous or fulvous elytra, more or less suifused with black; I liave thought itmight be serviceable to make them the subject of a separate article. The sub-genus Odontolabis, Hope,comprises those species of Lucauus which have the eyes entii-ely divided by the canthus, the fore tibitein the males externally ai-med with small spines ; the intermediate and posterior tibiae in both sexesexternally unarmed, the body not metallic-coloured, and the club of the antennae 3-partite.
