Lucanus brassy-green, glossed with copper ; the head and pronotum very dehcately gianulose, the mandiblesof the male as long as the head, falcate, and anned beyond the middle with about 9 small tnmcate teeth, the headquadrate, and marginate in front, the antennae black, the hind angles of the prothorax emargiuate; body beneathcopper-brown, the clypeus transverse and poiTected ; the eyes entirely bipartite, the mentiun semicii-cular, andvery pilose, the fore tibise broad, with about 5 small teeth, the four posterior ones simple in both sexes. Length of the insect, including the mandibles, 10—15 lines. Inhabits the Tennasserun Coast, and Pi-mce of Wales Island. In Coll. British Museum, and Hope. //.

Ornithoptci-us witli the wings satiny-gi-een, with a narrow black border, the fore ones with a very broad longitudinalfascia divided by green veins ; hind wings beneath golden green with black spots, and the anal angle shaded to goldencolour.
