STINGAKEE, OR SEA-DETIL. SHARKS ATTACKING BOATS. 93 Are there any more dangers among the reefs ? said Frank, whenall these had been recounted. Yes, was the reply; there are great numbers of sharks, some ofthem harmless and others dangerous. The worst is a white shark,thirty feet long, and he is so bold that he has been known to attackcanoes, either by overturning them and throwing their occupants intothe water, or by seizing an arm or leg which happened to be out-stretched, and dragging its owner overboard.

GARDEN OF A SUBURBAN RESIDENCE. There is a smaller shark, six or eight feet long, which lives in cavesin the coral, and comes out in search of food. Its flesh is good to eat,and one of these sharks is quite a prize. But suppose, said one of the youths, that after the diver hasentered the cave the shark should change his position and get acrossthe door-way. In that case, replied the guide, his only mode of escape will beto tickle the shark so as to induce him to move aside.
