| Description |
English: The bow of the trawler "Stefanie M".. A close look at the Stefanie M's bulbous bow. Unlike a traditional displacement hull which pushes water aside as a boat or ship moves a bulbous bow is supposed to reduce the drag of the wave on the hull. This increases speed and reduces fuel consumption. I don't (as a layman) know the scientific reasons for this or whether it happens in practice. She is drawing 3.2 metres at the bow (and more at the stern). She would not be able to enter Bangor harbour at certain states of the tide. At low water on a spring tide she will touch bottom. |
