Passing these across aplaza apparently broadened for their better presenta-tion rise on the west the Three Patriarchs, Yosemite-like in form, height, and bulk, but not in personalityor color. The brilliance of this wonder-spot passesdescription. Here the canyon contracts, and we come to thecomfortable hotel-camp, terminal of the automobilejourney. It is in a fine shady grove in an alcove ofthe east wall near a spring. Here horses may be hadfor exploration. A mile above the camp stands one of the mostremarkable monoliths of the region.
