he posterioraperture of the nares linear, margined with two rows of papillae. Thetongue is slender, decurved, long, measuring 6^ twelfths, deeply emarginateand papillate at the base, concave above, horny in the greater part of itslength, and tapering to a point. The oesophagus is 1 inch S twelfths long,of moderate width, its average diameter 1-^- twelfth, without dilatation. Theproventriculus is enlarged to 2 twelfths. The stomach is a muscular gizzard,of a somewhat elliptical form, 5 twelfths long, 4^ twelfths in breadth; itslateral muscles very strong, the tendons of moderate size; the epitheliumthin, tough, longitudinally rugous, reddish-brown. The contents of thestomach are remains of insects of various kinds, and one large particle ofquartz. The intestine is short, being only 4j inches long; its greatestdiameter 1 twelfth; the rectum is dilated; the cceca, which come off at thedistance of 5 twelfths from the extremity, are -£ twelfth long, and \ twelfthin breadth. Bill of moderate length, or nearly as long as the head, slender, slightlyarched, much compressed toward the end; upper mandible with the dorsalline slightly convex, the edges a little inflected toward the end, the notchesslight, the tip rather acute; lower mandible with the angle rather long andnarrow, the outline slightly decurved, the sides erect and convex, the edgesinclinate, the tip acute. Nostrils oblong, operculate, exposed. Head oblong;neck short; body slender.
