Loss of Life at Sea. The bark Harvest, Captain Crawford, which arrived at this port yesterday from Europe, reports having experienced the late gale from E.N.E. in lat. 40 20, lon. 68 30 during which thirteen steerage passengers were washed overboard. The H. suffered severely in her spars, sails, etc.

The bark Harvest, Captain Crawford, which arrived at this port yesterday from Europe, reports having experienced the late gale from East-North-East in latitude 40° 20', longitude 68° 30' during which thirteen steerage passengers were washed overboard. The Harvest suffered severely in her spars, sails, etc.

  • William Patterson (1842-1854) was one of the 13 passengers swept off the deck, and lost at sea, during the hurricane. This is known from a letter written by his uncle.
